Lessons
I am planning a set of autonomous robotics class based on, and extending from, the LMR start here robot except it will use an Arduino instead of Picaxe. See below for current outline.
Lesson 1 Introduction to Autonomous Robotics : Building an object avoider with simple navigation
Location: TBA
Date: TBA
Materials: Coming soon
Day 1
- Build the robot
- PID motor control
- Object avoidance
Day 2
- Localization
- Waypoint targeting
Day 3 Competition (Indoor)
- Navigate autonomously to predetermined set of point.

Cool little robot, I'm interested in any robotics related meet ups.

I be interested in a introduction to Arduino - count me in. $100-$150 is plenty

I would like to sit in on such a class but im developing my own robot. (probably using an arduino pro mini 3.3v which little bird electronics sells for 30AU$).
My interest would be just the arduino programming techniques and tricks.
Would it be possible to split the class into hardware and software?

@Andrew, I am hoping enough people are interested to get bulk discounts to help bring the price down to $150 or less excluding Arduino.
@Rebecca, the second class will be mostly about software, the only addition to the bots will be a quadrature encoder similar to, and probably will be, http://www.reprap.org/bin/view/Main/Magnetic_Rotary_Encoder_1_0

I'd be interested in this - both to learn the Arduino and especially interested in autonomous navigation software concepts.
I've got plenty of hardware (except Arduino...), but willing to pay so as to have consistent hardware for the class.

@Kean - You can have one my arduino's if you like =).

I know UNSW sells those breadboards for 15 bucks each...

I wouldn't buy anything from Farnell if I could get it elsewhere they charge at least twice as much as anybody else.

With a bit of lazer cutting this type of setup is possible with the components listed above. http://letsmakerobots.com/node/7210

How many of the people interested in the classes rely on public transport? I have found two possible locations for the classes, in Ryde http://www.macquarie.nsw.edu.au/doc/_pc_17.pdf and Rozelle http://www.rozellecentre.org.au/venue_hire.html, however transport might be a problem.

Transport isn't an issue for me. Depending on numbers, we may be able to do this at someones office/house/garage, or maybe we could wait to see if the Kogarah house idea will fly.
