How to get here
By public transport:
- Catch a train from Central/Redfern on the Illawarra Line to Rockdale or Kogarah (there's a lot of debate about which station is closer/less hilly. Just pick one). Get yourself from the station onto the Princes Highway, then walk to number 662. The walk should take about ten minutes.
- You can catch the 422 bus from Circular Quay, Elizabeth St near Town Hall, Railway Square or King St Newtown. The bus takes about 25 minutes from Railway Square and drops you off directly in front of the space.
- If you live in the Eastern Suburbs or near the airport, you can catch the 400 bus to Rockdale Station, then walk. The bus takes about 40 minutes from Randwick.
By car:
- 662 Princes Highway is on the east side of the road (ie if you're heading south on the Princes Highway it's on the left-hand side of the road). You can park in the hackerspace driveway or on the lawn. There's also parking in Chandler St.
Inside the hackerspace
The hackerspace has several rooms:
- A Board Room for meetings, planning and laptop work;
- The Blue Room, for equipment storage and some hardware work;
- The Junk Room, which houses donated equipment/materials/tools/hardware. Members can use whatever they like from this room;
- The Main Room, which is set up for general hacking, tabletop hardware work and seminars;
- The kitchen, where we keep the Slurpee Machine;
- The backyard, for circus arts practice, welding and parties;
- The Garage, for secure heavy item storage.
The space has:
- Internet access;
- Electricity, water, sewerage and gas;
- Lots of equipment: saws, soldering irons, screwdriver sets, etc, etc.
The space has RFID access:
- New and probationary members can get access to the hackerspace by attending with a full member;
- New and probationary members can also attend General Hacking on Saturdays and Monday nights, plus seminars and talks;
- Full members are entitled to RFID access -- you'll need to provide your own RFID card.
Ongoing work:
- A list of the ongoing work at the house is maintained here.

Looks good, is there any parking, or access to the back yard?
I am happy to run loads of new power and data circuits all over the place (that goes for anyplace we decide on) and happy to help with cleanup, repairs, general handyman stuff.

Yes, there is single car width access to the yard, where you could park 10 cars (have trouble getting them out in anything other than the order you put them in though) plus, the nearest cross street has plenty of parking.

Does the van come with the house? ;)
Seriously, I think it sounds good. Commenting from the East Side, I'd be interested to know how long it takes to get there.

Chris - what an opportunity you've offered to the group - great space, so much potential. Great to meet some of the group too.

Note that the photos above (as of Monday morning, May 25) are mostly 'before' photos - we did a bit of sweeping up and moving all the crap out of the way after that. It looked *THIS* much better aftewards.

+1 on what Nornagon said - a little bit of broom work went a long way. I suspect that we can make a BIG impact fairly rapidly.
